Birthday Special: Shahrukh Khan's Dilip Kumar connection

Movies

SHAHRUKH KHAN

SHAHRUKH KHAN

When Shah Rukh Khan made entry in Bollywood he was widely compared for his striking resemblance to Dilip Kumar. Even his mother felt so. In an interview Shah Rukh Khan confessed, ''I had heard a lot that I looked like Dilip Sahab but I was never convinced until I happened to watch Dilip Kumar's film in his youth at Ketan Mehta's office and began rubbing my eyes when Ketan informed me it was Dilip Kumar's image!''

However, besides a close resemblance to the legendary actor, SRK has something more in common to the thespian. You will wonder what?

Just as Dilip Kumar hails from Peshawar likewise Shah Rukh khan's father too was a Peshawari Pathan. When SRK's family came to India and resided in Delhi, Dilip Kumar also lived in the same lane. As a child SRK frequented Dilip Sahab's house many times until he moved to Mumbai.

Further what may stun you is that SRK's father was too keen to become an actor and had auditioned for Dilip Kumar's epic film MUGHAL-E-AZAM but failed to impress K. Asif, the movie's director. His parents aspired SRK become an actor like Dilip Kumar.

When Shah Rukh got the opportunity to play DEVDAS, he first took the blessings of the thespian before shooting. Interestingly both Dilip Kumar and Shah Rukh Khan won Filmfare's Best actor award for the role.
